If you are running your own business, you are surely aware of the importance of proper advertising. Without it, customers will not be able to find your company. There are many forms of advertising available today. They can be located, for example, in public spaces or on the premises of a company, shop or office. These will include various types of billboards, free-standing structures or large-format billboards.
From this article you will learn how to design a banner frame that will promote your products or services.
Types of structure for a banner or billboard
When designing a frame, the most important selection criterion is the location of the advertisement. The main question is whether your banner is to hang on the wall of a building or on a free-standing structure?
Advertisement on the wall of a building
A suitable banner frame is required for the installation of a wall advertisement. It most often takes the form of a metal frame with a set of tensioners that allow the printed sheet to be properly displayed. Banners are usually made of thick polyester fabric with grommets on the edges for tensioners.
Framed frames should be able to be easily mounted on the wall, for example using wall plugs. By making it with tubes and connectors, you have a lot of parts and fittings at your disposal, so creating such a structure should not be a problem.
You can permanently mount a banner with your company name and logo on the wall structure , but also change the advertisement depending on what you want to communicate to your customers. By installing your own frame on the wall of a company building, you have no restrictions on when the advertisement must be taken down, unlike when you rent advertising space.
For example:
If you run a shop, you can place multiple banners interchangeably on a single frame – for example, to inform about current promotions.
Free-standing walls and billboards
Similar to wall frames is the case with a free-standing frame – for a banner or a Plexiglas plate with an advertisement pasted on it. This type of structure allows advertisement to be placed anywhere. A wall or billboard can be erected on a company’s property, in a building, hall, at an event or even on private land, once the lease terms have been agreed with the owner. There is no restriction on where such a banner wall can be placed – within the bounds of law, of course.
Free-standing billboards can be of any size. There are no fundamental restrictions on the creation of such a project. It all depends on how big the banner is and what shape it takes – horizontal, vertical or square. Nothing stands in the way to combine several walls together to create a long line of advertisements. Such a solution will work well, for example, at events where it is necessary to fence off an area accessible only to staff.
However, it is important to remember that the banner sheet in windy weather acts as a sail. And although the entire structure is made of metal and can weigh quite a lot, weather factors must be taken into account when designing.
Important!
When creating a freestanding banner frame, keep safety in mind. A strong wind can blow it over.
Large-scale advertising structures
A third type of advertising structures are the large-scale frames. These are often:
- combinations of walls forming different figures, e.g. advertising cubes,
- hanging or standing billboard structures,
- rectangular structures for large-format advertisements (as near expressways).
Designing such systems requires more calculation. The weight of the whole structure and the stability of the ground need to be well assessed.
With the right tube connectors, you can create a frame of any shape and size. Elements such as a wall connector, foot or post base enable large-format advertisements to be mounted to a concrete base surface. Thanks to them you will increase safety.
Structure size calculation
When designing your own structure with tubes and fittings, the size will depend on whether:
- You know the size of the banner and adjust the frame size to it.
- You want to cover a specific section of the wall – thanks to this you know the size of the frame and adjust the size of the banner to it.
Whether you want to determine the size of the frame or the banner, the calculation is made using the same formula.
How to calculate the size of a banner frame – formula:
Frame size = Size of a banner + 2x 3 cm + 2x tube diameter
Explanation:
Add 8 cm of distance to each side of the banner, which will be filled by the StormFix tensioners and the size corresponding to the diameter of the tube. The action should be performed for the width and height of the frame/banner respectively.
Example:
- The banner has a dimension of 100 x 100 cm
- The tube diameter is 42 mm = 4.2 cm
Width of frame = 100 + 16 + 8.4 = 124.4 cm
Similarly, we calculate the height, which after rounding out gives us a size of 124 x 124 cm.
For the above calculations, we used the standard diameter of the tubes used in the creation of structures for advertising banners – 42 mm. This diameter is sufficient for smaller frames. If you are having trouble selecting tubes, we encourage you to read our article on diameters or to consult your project with us – here you will find contact details.
Now that you know what the frame size for your banner should be, it’s time to choose the right connectors. For a simple wall-mounted board, you will need:
- 4 cut-to-size tubes e.g. aluminium tubes,
- 4 90° elbows for tubes,
- wall brackets – we recommend 1 per 200-250 cm of tube,
- banner tensioners – we recommend 1 per 30 cm of the banner, remembering to fix 2 in each corner.
There is also another option for fixing advertisement on buildings. Instead of hanging a banner, you can use Plexiglass or dibond boards. Then, instead of tensioners, you will need the appropriate vertical brackets and a set of screws to mount the plate.
The banner should be visible
Another important consideration is to ensure good visibility of the banner. Structures for advertisements should therefore be installed where nothing will block them out. They should attract attention, so, for example, a wall obscured by trees is not a good place.
However, good placement is not everything. It is also worth thinking about the fact that after dark most advertisements are completely invisible. Therefore, additionally equip the structure with lighting points. LED floodlights for advertisements will ensure that the banner is clearly visible, even at night. This is one of those things that can make an advertisement even more effective.
